Thrust matters, but shaft length is equally important. If the shaft is too short, the propeller can cavitate when the bow lifts, reducing control and performance. When bow height is borderline, or you regularly fish in choppier water, a longer shaft can help keep the propeller in the water more consistently.

Measure from the top of the bow mounting deck down to the waterline, then allow enough shaft length to keep the propeller well submerged. When in doubt, go longer.
A heavier loaded boat needs more thrust to hold position and stay on course in wind or current.
The higher your mounting point sits above the waterline, the longer the shaft you need.
The propeller needs to stay well below the surface to keep steady control and thrust.
If the propeller comes too close to the surface as the bow lifts, control and performance can suffer. When bow height is borderline, or you regularly fish choppier water, a longer shaft helps.
